You can find a lot of neat things at the dollar store. All of these neat things aren’t always super pretty though. To find things that you really like, you must visit almost daily, or you can do a little make over to fit any decor!
With Easter just around the corner, I’ve been creating little pieces of decor that has mainly gathered in one spot. A few weeks ago while I was walking around the Dollar Store with nothing specific to buy in mind, I happened across some bunnies that could use a little bit of a makeover. These bunnies were textured and had these really weird looking eyes (not sure who came up with this), but I thought that this would be the perfect project!
I grabbed a couple of these little bunnies and off I went! I unwrapped my bunnies when I got home and I wasn’t really sure what I was going to do with them 100%. One of my good friends, Sarah, over at The Project Pile used some chalk paint to turn her Dollar Store bunnies from cheap to chic and I thought I might as well give it a try.
I ended up painting only one of the two bunnies that I picked up. The other I saved for another project that will be up shortly. I only had two colours of chalk paint at the time that I started this project. Choosing paint colours has always been something that I struggle with. I’ve never been much for colour coordinating. In the end I went with a grey and let me tell you, I LOVE how it turned out! I was iffy at first while I was painting the bunny because of the texture, but I was super happy with it once it dried.
When the grey dried completely I painted my eyes. I used an acrylic black paint which bonded with the material of the beaded eyes perfectly. I don’t recommend a water based paint for that as the first paint I tried just ran off the beads.
This simple makeover is sure to make any Dollar Store piece look great!
