8 Genius Ways To Use Dryer Sheets

Bounce Dryer Sheet

Did you know that dryer sheets actually have many uses? They aren’t just good for making your laundry smell good! The basic use for them is definitely in the dryer – don’t get me wrong there. You won’t find a load of laundry in my house that hadn’t been dried with a dryer sheet. I hate static and this is one good way to get rid of it, but there are many other uses that I’d love to share with you!

Dryer sheets can be purchased in so many places, but the best place is actually the dollar store! The dollar store does sell a lot of name brand products now, but you don’t even have to settle for those, any box of dryer sheet will do!

Below you will find my best hacks on when to use dryer sheets in your every day life!

Remove bugs from your car

Don’t you just hate it when you take your car through the car wash or wash it by hand like I do and after you’ve scrubbed and scrubbed and scrubbed some more there are still bugs on it? Peach (my car!) is blue and she definitely shows dirt and bugs way worse than other colours, and one simple trick to removing those stuck on bugs on my front bumper and grille is to use a dryer sheet! Simply take your dryer sheet and rub your buggy areas until they are gone! It won’t take long until your vehicle is shining! (I typically wash my car first and whatever won’t scrub off with the brush I will get with the dryer sheet)

Remove static from your hair

Being Canadian means enduring some pretty harsh winter weather and with the use of electric heat, or really any heat, my hair ends up on it’s ends. There are sprays out there that will help combat the static in your hair, but I choose to use a dryer sheet. You only need to rub your hair a couple times before it completely disappears!

Remove soap scum from the shower

We have sliding glass doors in both of our bathroom. One in the stand up shower, and the other to enclose the bath tub. It doesn’t seem to matter what cleaners I try, they don’t typically work well. Try a dryer sheet! It will remove the soap scum in no time! (I recommend doing this more often as I found that the longer you leave it the harder it is to get off)

Remove odor from shoes

How many pairs of shoes can one person wear at one time? The answer is one! This means that you’ll have dozens of other shoes laying around that could potentially get pretty smelly. Especially gym shoes! Throw a dryer sheet in your shoes when not in use and you’ll thank me later!

Deodorize your camping gear

Most people will not go camping in the wintertime, at least not in Canada. What happens when you put your camping gear away at the end of the season? Well it gets musty smelling from being packed away. The same can be said for any clothing or items that get stored away when you don’t have room for them. Place a couple dryer sheets in your things before you pack them away and you’ll be pleased with the scent when you get back!

Remove small pieces of hair from the floor

Dryer sheets are known for removing static, and if you’re the kind of person that either cuts hair in your own home, or loses a lot of hair like myself, you’ll find it clinging to all kinds of surfaces. A broom and dust pan only do so much and dragging out your vacuum can be a pain for a little bit of left over hair and dust from your broom. Simple solution? Use a dryer sheet! Wipe it up like you would with your dish cloth on the counter! Voila!

Fire starters

Dryer sheets along with lint from the lint trap in the dryer are amazing fire starters! You will not need bits of newspaper when you have used lint and dryer sheets handy! If you’re going camping or just want to have a bonfire to roast some marshmallows, stuff some dryer sheets and lint into old toilet paper rolls and watch them burn!

Animal repellent

A great way to keep those pesky rodents away is, believe it or not, dryer sheets! We have a million barn cats and I walked outside with a dryer sheet to clean my car and the cats greeted me. I let one sniff it and he ran the other way. So it is tested and true!

There are so many options when it comes to how to use dryer sheets! These are only a few to choose from! You don’t have to use new dryer sheets either! Experiment with used dryer sheets as well. They work just as good and you can use them more than once!
